Ok so I just picked up a porty, and need to know what's the best extractor soap to use, I see granger has zep for $10 a gal, is it any good? I see they have a stronger version, I'm not sure

Pre vacuum
Pre spot coffee/ urine and soda spots with an oxidizer, trigger or small pump up sprayer
Apply pre/spray/traffic lane cleaner, 2 gallon pump up or electric sprayer
Agitate with brush, broom, rakes, shoes or better yet a 175 floor machine
Rinse out dirt and pre spray with your new portable. Use a mild EMULSIFIER to help rinse out chems and soil. DO NOT OVER USE.
Lots of dry strokes
Post spot where needed
Groom out foot steps and leave the pile looking pretty
Place fans on carpet as you go..

Wool requires different/ more gentle chemistry..

Oxygen releasing emulsifiers most likely contain Sodium Percarbonate, which often tend to dissolve slow unless in very hot water, which may be a complication for a new jack hack like yourself.

I would recommend Prochem Dry Slurry if you are looking to try a decent emulsifier that will dissolve rapidly in a porty fresh tank.

You will find it in the JonDon catalog that is already on its way.........right???

Relying on an emulsifying detergent ALONE will only be enough to clean very LIGHTLY soiled jobs if using a porty alone, and should mainly be considered as a supplement to a good pre-conditioner treatment that is applied BEFORE actual extraction.

Are you aware of, and have you considered taking a carpet cleaning class?

The Interlink and JonDon catalogs that are already on their way (....RIGHT?...)...should list the dates and locations of 2-3 day courses close to you.

Frank is right (man that tasted awful coming out of my mouth) buy name brand from industry suppliers. Those other products work but are often poor dilution rates and you end up over paying for chems.

Don't you need to watch out for foam in a portable. Won't it come flying out vacuum exhaust. I'm just guessing products like zep are foamy.

Sure will and it happens to everyone sooner or later. Get yourself some defoamer and use it.

The little that I use a portable I only use liquid chems. and no powders the porty pumps seem to last longer. I have a 32 yr old hoover extractor that has the original pump and still works fine. The vacs have been changed . Made in the USA and last longer, no Jap parts then . jz.

I did get more foam with the dry mix, guess you have to defoam the waste tank, bad for the system.

Bad for the vac motors because you're sucking wet foam thru them

I know what it's like to be a broke d1ck ..in particular when starting out.
I've used everything from laundry detergent to Purple Power, to Simple Green trying to save chem costs

I'll tell you from experience, it doesn't pay to cheap out on chems.
If I had to use only one line of chems, it would be Prochem .
Most of what I use is Prochem products and Flex


Learn to use pre-spray and dwell time (and/or agitation) to do the heavy lifting .
add just enough emulsifier in the porty tank to fit the job.
If light/med soil conditions, use 1/3 to 1/2 of what manufacture suggests .

if you've used a good quality prespray (Prochem makes some of the best) in sufficient quantity, you won't need much emulsifier in the porty tank
If a rat nasty, then use more emulsifier

If your use de foam in the recovery tanks before you start the cleaning the foam is minimal and ALWAYS run the vacuums for a few minutes at the end of every job to dry out the motors before the job is finished. jz.
