Who can press new bearings on direct drive shaft?

No suppliers nearby. WM pro 1200. Should I just take to regular mechanic or bearing shop or drive shaft specialty?

Yes. It has to be pressed on squarely.

Hold the shaft taper end down and bang on a 2x4 till the rear bearing comes out then place long metal tube in the other end and tap front bearing out......
THEN:
tap front bearing back in with some Locktight sleeve retainer on it......using a bad bearing!
THEN:make a "bearing retainer plate" bolting that on the clutch plate...
THEN
replace the shaft through the tube and onto the new bearing.....
THEN
go to the rear of shaft and set the new bearing in place...
THEN
tap it home using the BAD bearing the press it in...
THEN

remove the "bearing retainer plate" that kept the front bearing from popping out......

One other thing.... don't buy the cheap bearings.......the good ones cost about 50 bones apiece...if you don wanna DO THIS again...

BUY THEM!

jus remember...don't hit the shaft with a metal hammer....one good downward blow onto wood will usually pop the shaft right out!

Thanks for the info Bob but I quit the mechanics job. I'm gonna let a grease monkey do it. I got Browning's. $60 each. Are they good?

Are they TAPERED ROLLER BEARINGS...i hope not!
i've never used them...
actually the Jap bearings are better than the ones made in USA...
sealed double row...right?

That's me Dwain-o! I was combing through old posts about driveshafts to learn stuff and things. I just learned that if I simply "like" a post or something similar it revives the whole thing. I think I've been unknowingly reviving ancient threads by doing this off and on for a while now. I thought my likes on ancient posts would be personal between me and the creator. But alas, we're all here and I'm a weirdo. I'm glad I'm secretly entertaining you guys.

Since y'all joined the discussion I do have some questions. What are signs of driveshaft problems one can watch out for before they begin? I read about someone's driveshaft busting in the engine compartment and causing a ton of engine damage!

Also when greasing these things, is it ok to pump it until it seeps through the seals?

All my experience is with sealed straight driveshafts. . As far as greasing goes i would pump grease same as i would on the vans driveshaft, till it seeps outa the seals unless told otherwise by hydramaster..
