Curry yellowish discoloration.

Customer used 3% peroxide, some mild dish soap and lots of alcohol to remove some ball point ink of a 2 year old nylon. He got the ink out of some ares but the carpet tuned a sort of curryish Yellow color where ever he worked.

He left some ink globs for me to work on once he decided he was getting in over his head.

I pre sprayed the areas with 40 vol and ammonia then some alcohol and let it sit while I set up my hoses. Sure enough the fibers turned the same yellowy color.

I tried Red Vanish, Bi Sulfate and Citric Acid to remove the yellow but it would not budge.

At this point I gave them the number of my fave carpet repair guy. He will charge them $80 to bond a new piece in.

I would have charged them $200 an hour to sit there and dick with it which would mostly likey lead to some sort of color loss and wear on the fibers.

In twenty four years I have not seen this on a synthetic, have you?

if you where a hack like me you would come across this a few times a month and have the patch done in 10mins and that 80 bucks in your pocket

Could the peroxide be bleaching some of the colors but not the yellow component? i dont have any idea, just guessing.

Seen it many times.

It did not "turn yellow" - it was more that the yellow part of the ink stain is all that was not removed with the alcohol or Pro Solve etc.

I've had the best results with Vacaway's HellGel.

Here's the Pro Choice Instructions :

1. Apply Pro's Choice Power Gel to discolored fibers.
2. Agitate gently but thoroughly to completely emulsify spot.
3. How water extraction rinse very thoroughly leaving carpet as dry as possible (note: you will remove the majority of the Ink Jet Printer Ink at this stage) If slight yellow stain remains proceed to step 4.
4. Apply Pro's Choice Red Relief "A" solution to stained fibers.
5. Cover with white terry cloth towel and apply steam heat from iron for 30 seconds to 1 minute (set on lowest
steam setting with plenty of water in iron).
6. Hot water extraction rinse area to remove chemical residue.

Nice try Higgins but the yellow occurred where the Ink WAS NOT present.

I had it too for when a customer tried my PooF on a ink stain and used a brush to scrub it in.

I tried just what Mikey did and the yellow remained.

So you are saying that even in areas that had no ink stains he was turning a beige carpet yellow with 3% peroxide, alcohol and dish soap ?
I'd say that he is not telling you the whole story or that there is something wrong with the dyes used on that carpet. Was this in area exposed to direct sunlight ? Nylon carpet I assume, how old is the carpet ?

2 year old tops. No direct light.

Yep, sounds like a faulty dye and pretty soon they will have a real "conversation piece".
