We recently did a cleaning for relatively new client. His 2nd cleaning 6 months after the first. New construction 1 year old house.
Master bedroom and stairs only, small finished basement with stairs. He insisted did not want hallway. Im looking and saying to myself, but i have to run my hoses in the hallway to get to the master bedroom and appears dirty. Ok Whatever i says to myself.
I did the job, included the hallway at no job. I let him know and he appreciated it.
First time cleaning he said his wife will send electronic payment. Me, no problem. 2 days later calls me up for me to pick up cash. He included a tip. Cool.
6 months later (a few days ago) calls up and wants cleaning again. Me, cool.
I included an extra room at no charge as a appreciation for his business and confidence to use me again.
Again wife not home, says she will send elect payment. Me, cool.
Calls up 2 days later and says can he pay by check. Me, no problem.
I told him i will riding by his neighborhood the next so i will stop by sometime in the day.
He’s retired navy career guy. He says ok no problem.
Well it turned out i could not stop earlier in the day so i called him at 6:35pm still daylight outside, and said i am riding thru and can stop by to pick up the check if he did not mind. He says to me…”its after business hours and i should stick to business hours when doing business, but since your close by, stop in”
I immediately said its no big deal i can stop by another time no biggie. He insisted i i stop by. So i did. Picked up my check. Took maybe 1 minute from the time i pulled up and he opened the door and handed me the check.
We departed politely.
I was a bit blown back by his comment for me to stick business hours. In all these years never once had anyone objecting to me stopping by to pick up my payment. Ive always respected peoples time and called before stopping by to pick up payment and made sure its Relatively decent time. All would invite to stop by whenever i could. All were cool about it.
Not this fella. Thiught he was a jerk about me stopping by to pick up payment.
If any contractor did work at my home and we arranged for him to pick up payment at another time, me would not mind the least whatever time he stopped by. Maybe its me but sometimes you get a pinch nose brother with an unnecessary attitude.
Me, keep it quiet, move on. Customer is always right….i suppose.
