How long should I wait after I repair a seam with the Kool glide to clean it?

After I do a repair I always worry about cleaning that area. I know I am just being extra cautious, but I don't want to undo anything I have fixed and get a call back.

I've noticed when using the standard seaming iron and recently with the KoolGlide that the seaming tape tends to stick to the pad. Is there something I can do to prevent this? I was surprised when the KoolGlide did it too. It was your typical olefin berber and I had the KoolGlide set on low.

I still use an old trick that was past down to me by some veteran. I keep a roll of toilet paper on truck and unroll it out under the seam tape. Any glue that oozes out the sides will stick to the toilet paper and not the padding. But if you already have the carpet disengaged, then simply fold the carpet over to unstick the tape to the pad before reinstalling it.

You could also use a 1/4 piece of Luan underneath.

Check if you have the tape with or without silicone on the backing. The non-silicone will stick to the pad and the silicone will not, or should not.

Harry gave great advice, a seaming board is great to use when you work a seam.
