Vintage rug backing ungluing

I have come across an older area rug, the back has a boarder that's coming unglued? From what I can find gluing the back is the sign of cheap quality.
Should I find some glue? Or try to sew this together

Looks like a modern Indian tufted rug, likely not any older than 10 or 15yrs. Need a picture if the back to confirm.

If the backing is just slightly coming undone around the edges use a hot glue gun to secure.

This was either at the beach, Or put together with glue. I think 6 pounds of sand came out of it! Not sure how I'm going to attack the yellowing and brown stains, I was going to hit it with baking soda and white vingar.

The "commodity" grade Indian tufted rugs have a lifespan of five to seven years. Past that the adhesive fails and both the backing and edges fall off. If the backing is removed, the majority of bad latex can be removed and replaced with better quality latex to give the rug 10 more years of life. Backing and edge pieces don't matter, unless someone with a no-value rug is concerned by the appearance of the back, as it just adds repair expense to replace.

Cost of cleaning and back repair typically meets or exceeds the cost of replacement. We'd recommend throwing this one away.

When they bring a rug like that into one of our Depots, we encourage them to save their money and just buy a new one from us.

Yes looks like this one was at it's end, they just gave it to me and I was going to just use it as a learning experience. I never re glued or backed a rug so if I were what material would I use. And could I do it ??

For that size rug you'll need almost a gallon of latex adhesive and a pre-shrunk canvas painter's drop cloth.

So do you remove the backing? If so how? or just go over the existing backing material

When you get the rug wet, the cheap latex will turn into putty and the old backing should peel off. Clean as much cruddy latex off as you can. When dry you can get to the new backing.

I did completely wet the entir rug and the back is sold just the edge coming loose.
Not sure but seems grungy
