why are the lights so expensive?

Clearly, you get what you pay for... A lot who followed MB knows Larry Cobb knows his UV lights... He's a flashlight geek as is one of my friends...

I don't currently have a Cobbs UV light but will get one soon... I don't do peepee jobs, but some rugs with urine come through.. I'd like to show Mrs. Jones that it's been more than an accident as fido pissed all over it (of course when your not looking)...

I'm just unsure of how the light will show up on a wool immersion cleaned rug.. I guess only one way to find out.. I've read somewhere on MB that you need to use another product to remove the urine glow on wtw or the old urine will still illuminate...

We have the ones by the OP. We have owned just about every single light in the industry except the cobb. These new flashlight uvs are way more bright compared to the puny AA models. We have those too, and they dont even compare. We just need no direct sunlight to do our pee odor extraction

UV technology from LED's is constantly evolving. One year ago the best LED's produced a power level of say 100.
Then in May of 2015 the UV power output jumped up by 50%.
January will see another 50% power increase in UV output.
That totals a 125% power increase in the last year.
All with no increase in cost of the light.

In general, wool rugs are so absorbent and the pile is denser than most residential carpet. Much of the urine is in the fiber and/or below the surface and not easily seen by UV light, at least not as easy to spot as in living room with 30 ounce nylon cut-pile.

An immersion cleaning is more complete than what can be done from the surface with installed carpeting.

So, you see less glow prior to inspection and much less glow after a thorough immersion cleaning.

Salts and protein are the biggest contributors to the glow although there are a few other components that also glow. Depending upon the product and the method of cleaning, usually most of the protein is removed, but almost always some salt is left behind. Salt disperses in the water. unless you were able to extract 100% of the water, you would not get 100% of the salt out. Water that dries by evaporation leaves the salt behind and some glow.

Depending upon the exact make-up of what is left behind, the glow will usually look different.

I am sure Larry can elaborate on this, but not all black lights operate on the ideal wavelength to deliver maximum performance on such applications.

High power at the right wavelength is what will deliver the best results.
