The area that is dark and swollen is from years of dog water bowl abuse. I tested some areas and I was just a little bit of dwell time to light applications of the Zep stripper and some scrubbing got it off that with those huge gaps obviously some of the strippers going to get in their butt on a solid plank like this I'm guessing I'll be okay but would love to hear from somebody more experienced in doing this

any juices with conditioners or wetting agents only enhance water absorption
and who cares anyway?
they like distressed ( pre-fck'd up/beat/burnt/chopped/look like azz new) floors
charge them extra for the service of adding more "character"

What color pad did you use to strip it? And how did you know it was aluminum oxide? I've never heard of that type of finish which is why I'm asking. Is it something that's common on the west side or is that common everywhere?

Masking would have took hours.
Most pricey wood floors are AO finish these days. When you see very few, if any scratches, little to no fading and a dark color on a hand scraped look finish that can't be sanded without destroying the look, those are your clues...
And when the customer has cancer or the onset of Alzheimer's.
